Tape 1: Yo Yo Buddy Yup Yup Word To Ya Muthuh

Background
Up until 2006, none of the fans had copies of the early generation Girly Sound tapes. All we had were copies of copies.

Early in 2006, mp3s of first generation copies of the first 2 tapes were introduced via Phair's online community, bringing to light the original track listing, correct song names, and album titles and more importantly introducing a number of songs that did not appear on the previous Girly Sound bootlegs. The songs were first introduced on the Liz Phair Experience (LPX) site and later made available on the girlysound.com site.

The first tape was entitled Yo Yo Buddy Yup Yup Word To Ya Muthuh.  Here is the original art work distributed with the cassette tapes:

Due to the nature of inserts with cassettes tapes, part of a cassette tape cover art would be right side up and part would be up side down.  I have provided both orientations so that you appreciate both portions of the cover.

01 White Babies

"White Babies" is the first track.  It was also known as "Black Market White Baby Dealer".  There is a telephone answering machine version of the song with slightly different lyrics.

At the very beginning of the song is a barely audible single word that sounds like "Dad".

The song appears to use the melody from the old song "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean".

This song is a vague reference to the fact that Liz Phair was adopted.   Liz has said that she has struggled with her sense of identity for a number of years.  I find this remarkable since I believe that your identity comes from what you accomplish with your life.  Liz has simply accomplished much more than many other musicians with her career and she continues to do so.
