Other Notes: (Google+ account, twitter, soundcloud, Google Drive)

Another thing:  Google+ was shutdown April, 2019.  The posts there are gone.

This blog, the soundcloud page, and the twitter account may be all that's left.  I am responsible for all of that content, so it won't be going down.

I need to go through my notes to see if there's any other place where I uploaded the songs.  I do believe that I have the songs uploaded to my Google Drive for this email account. 

Status update on girlysound.com

The original websites for girlysound are gone.  The first one to go was girlysound.org.  That site hosted the SMF forum, which crashed and never recovered about 3 years ago or so.

Recently, I noticed that the DNS entries for girlysound.com are gone as well.

I am a volunteer that just did the social media for the websites and I did not finance the website or host it.

I don't think that girlysound.org or girlysound.com will be coming back.

I myself am about 3 years from retirement.  I don't have as much time to maintain all of this.  I cannot make any commitments for what will happen when I retire in a few years.

Updates to GirlySound Knowledge: Third GirlySound tape title and tracklisting revealed

In today's (3/15/2018) news, it was revealed that Matador Records will be releasing the Girly Sound tapes in cassette format with recreated artwork.

The third GS tape is called "Sooty".

The Track listing is:

Compressed versions of GirlySound

On the Google Drive, I have some compressed versions of the GirlySound tapes.  I personally cannot tell the difference in sound with the originals.

I plan to provide links to these from the pages for each girlysound tape.

Let me know if there are any other formats that you would like to see provided.

Changes still in progress at girlysound.com

The site girlysound.com is still undergoing some changes.  Eventually, it is supposed to use the same forum software as the previous version and should also support links to the same girlysound tracks.

In the meantime, I have created a Google Drive for girlysound2, where I am hosting the tracks and some other files.

If you'll look to the right, you'll see pages on the GirlySound tracks.  I have updated the pages to provide links to the Google Drive files.  I'll try to get the links setup to the third, unknown tape in a few days.

The need to migrate the old girlysound site has been gnawing at my to-do list for a couple years. Then suddenly last week I receive an email from GoDanica. Not being superbowl, week, I was surprised to hear from GoDanica. To be more truthful, it wasn't GoDanica herself, but one of the semi-autonomous perl scripts that inhabit GoDanica's slave pits. In any case, GoDanica would like me to know that the girlysound server is susceptible to shellshock. It's running some pre-historic linux kernel. It cannot be patched.

New material to come

I am going to start making some updates to this blog.  I have been absent for quite some time, but I plan to correct this.

I've added a link to the Google+ Account

There is now a Google+ account for GirlySound2.  If you look it up, look for "Girlysound Deux".  Deux is French for the word "two".

The Google+ page is http://google.com/+GirlysoundDeux .

Update 8/12/2015: I made changes to switch the Google+ account to Girlysound Deux instead of Girlysound Deaux.  I also updated the google plus link.

Copyright Issues

When I was attempting to restore some of the songs taken down earlier, I came across a site that said that the Girly Sound songs previously provided were copyright infringements against the Girly Sound songs published on Funstyle.

Event though I have received assurances that it is "OK" for us to provide these songs, I don't think that this unofficial clearance will pass the legal tests to allow me to continue providing these songs.

For this reason, I am removing links to the 10 Girly Sound songs on Funstyle disc 2.

If and when I get something that looks more like a legal document covering my actions, I don't believe that I have a real choice.

bln.kr uploads

I've been having too many problems with twiturm.com, so I looked for alternatives.

I am now using bln.kr (pronounced blinker) music sharing site for sharing the Girly Sound tracks.

UPDATE 8/6/2015:  bln.kr has gone down.  Nothing that was uploaded there remains.

Girly Sound tracks to reappear

According to an interview with Liz Phair on 2/15, we are free to republish the missing Girly Sound tracks. I'll try to get them re-uploaded and available soon.

I've had a number of things going on in my personal life that have kept me away from this blog.

Most of that is coming to an end. I intend on writing some new blog entries soon.

Lyva Fest, Live!

I came back from dinner and Bob Pepek was performing. Pretty good.

Lyva was on stage at 8:30pm (Central). They were great!

Lunic came on stage at 9:30pm. At some point, you could watch the dueling violins. Kaitee Page has a great voice. They were amazing.

The evening finishes up with The Deafening Colors.

I've got my employer community service event tomorrow, but will try to check in later on during the event.

I picked up a copy of Funstyle with Girly Sound today

I had to go down to San Antonio today to take my mother to a hospital for a test.

After it was all done, I headed back home, but stopped by a Best Buy that I noticed on the drive in. They had a copy of Funstyle and it was marked down as is usual custom with first week of releases of CDs.

Since I had already heard Funstyle from the release this past summer, I was eagerly awaiting the Girly Sound tracks. It was a bummer that we'd only get 10 of the 40 known Girly Sound tracks (14 tracks Yo Yo Yup + 14 tracks Girls Girls Girls + 12 tracks in unnamed tape 3 = 40 tracks), but I'll take versions that are somewhat cleaned up from what is available on girlysound.com.

What I wanted was removed tape hiss (or reduced tape hiss). What I didn't want to happen to the tracks was any elimination of the various noises either before or after the tracks. There was a certain amount of charm to the songs in their complete original setting.

Now, after listening to the Girly Sound tracks on my headphones, I've got a sense that some of these seeming glitches have been edited out.

It looks like I've got a bunch of music listening to do.

Girly Sound tracks on the new Funstyle album

I had received word of the Girly Sound tracks on Funstyle, but was not going to release the names until I was sure that it was common knowledge. With the album available for pre-order from amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Funstyle-Liz-Phair/dp/B0041ON4BS), CDUniverse.com, and Deep Discount, the track listings are now common knowledge:

Girly Sound songs to be removed

There are a number of songs that have been removed from the girlysounddotcom myspace page. There are also songs that will soon disappear from the girlysound2 blog.

I have received information on the songs that will be released with the enhanced version of Funstyle on Oct 19 with the Girly Sound tracks. Girly Sound tracks released on Oct 19 will be removed from the GirlySound2 blog.

The removal of these songs will be temporary--they will return at a later date. During the time period that these songs are taken down, I encourage every Girly Sound fan to purchase the new Funstyle album and become familiar with the Girly Sound tracks with the new version of Funstyle.

I personally plan to purchase the new Funstyle album even though I purchased Funstyle online in July and have the 40 Girly Sound tracks available from girlysound.com. I encourage others to do the same.

On a personal note, I am in the process of trying to patch up the issues that I had over at girlysound.com.

The new Funstyle album coming out this fall with Girly Sound tracks

On one hand, I applaud the release of the Girly Sound tracks by Liz Phair.  These are some of her best works in her career.  They're great and all of her fans need to listen to these songs.

On the other hand, I've been helping to make these tracks available and I just don't know what it means for the songs that I uploaded so that other fans could listen.  I don't know if I'm supposed to shut down the myspace page, the facebook pages.

I've been operating on the assumption that Liz wanted the fans to hear these songs.  She has a right to distribute these songs.

So far, I am only just now hearing about the release of the Girly Sound tracks.  I really don't know what this means for girlysound.com and the pages that I've put up.

I really want to do the right thing.  I just don't have any guidance and I certainly don't have a clue on how to proceed.

I've gotten sidetracked with some personal blog items.  At this point, I want to focus on writing about independent music.

I now write several blogs.  This one will focus on all things Girly Sound, independent music, and Liz Phair, who really cannot be described as an indie musician anymore.
